Steel Reinforced Aluminium Conductor (ACSR) Electrical Cable Aluminum Wire

This steel reinforced aluminium conductor (ACSR) is a bare overhead electrical cable built from aluminum strands wrapped around a zinc-coated steel core. The steel core carries the tensile load, while the aluminum wires provide the conductive path. This composite structure allows the cable to span distances between poles or towers while maintaining mechanical stability and electrical continuity. The conductor is supplied without insulation for direct mounting on insulators and line hardware. Its aluminum outer surface develops a natural oxide film that resists weathering in outdoor service, and the galvanized core adds corrosion protection. The cable is intended for overhead power transmission and distribution circuits where both strength and conductivity are required.

Specifications

The Characteristics of ACSR:

1. Steel-Reinforced Composite Construction. The conductor pairs a galvanized steel core with outer aluminum strands, combining mechanical reinforcement and electrical conductivity in a single overhead cable.
2. Bare Overhead Design. Supplied uninsulated for direct installation on insulators and support structures, reducing material complexity and allowing standard line hardware to be used.
3. Corrosion-Resistant Galvanized Core. The zinc coating on the steel core provides a protective layer against atmospheric corrosion while maintaining the tensile capacity needed for overhead spans.
4. Concentric Stranded Aluminum Wires. Aluminum strands are laid in concentric layers around the core, creating a uniform conductive path and permitting the cable to be reeled, strung, and tensioned with conventional equipment.
5. Sag and Tension Control. The aluminum-to-steel ratio is selected to balance current-carrying capability with sag behavior, helping the conductor perform reliably across transmission and distribution routes.

Pay attention to the following steps during installation:

1. Tension control: It is recommended to control the tension at 20% -30% of the rated value to avoid excessive stretching.
2. Sag adjustment: Adjust the sag according to the ambient temperature, generally within the range of 1% -3% span.
3. Connection processing: Use specialized crimping tools, and the recommended crimping pressure is 20-30MPa.
